Podium: Bicycles Plus Folsom Criterium

Six Touchstone Climbing racers took on the Bicycles Plus Folsom Criterium on Saturday, May 28th. Carol, Marley, Heather, Marissa, Ann & Elis arrived to cool, cloudy skies and the threat of rain. A strong field of about 25 women included heavy hitters from Primal/Map My Ride, Metromint, Vanderkitten and RED Racing.

From early in the race Touchstone used their numbers to their advantage, trading attacks and forcing the other teams to work. It seemed as though every lap the announcers were shouting “Touchstone off the front!” as every teammate took her turn off the front. The team was so active that the Cycles Gladiator Most Aggressive Racer award was a six-way tie shared between the entire team — a first for that competition!

In the last three laps the team organized on the front, diligently keeping the pace high and the field stretched out. One by one they peeled off, until Marley flew into the final corner, taking it slightly wide. As the other sprinters followed Marley’s line, allowing Elis sneaked up the inside and pushed to the line. Only Mary-Ellen Ash of Metromint Cycling was able to come around her at the line. Janelle Kellman of RED Racing rounded out the podium in third place.
